continental-winter-street-scene-oil-canvas-cba-156
Continental School - Continental Winter Street Scene

This signed oil on canvas depicts a snow-covered street in an old European town, with figures walking through the snow between closely packed buildings. A solitary figure in dark clothing occupies the foreground, while smaller groups gather further along the street.

The composition is dominated by a broad winter sky, with patches of clear blue breaking through the cloud. Snow rests on the rooftops and bare trees line the street. The ochre and reddish-brown buildings on the right catch the light, contrasting with the darker buildings opposite and the snow-covered road.

The painting is signed lower right, although the artist has not been identified. A closely comparable winter street scene has been recorded with a similarly indistinct signature, suggesting a possible connection, although there is insufficient evidence to establish a definitive attribution. The work is therefore offered as a signed continental oil painting by an unidentified artist.
