He studied at Norwich before entering the Royal Academy Schools in 1874. From 1879 to 1900 he exhibited regularly at the Royal Academy, showing works including\nTidal River,\nCoast of Suffolk\nand\nEvening. In 1886 he was elected a member of the New English Art Club, a progressive exhibiting society associated with naturalistic landscape painting.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eNichol worked from London studios in Camden Road and Haverstock Hill before settling in the late 1890s at The Cloisters, Snape, near Saxmundham in Suffolk. There he produced tranquil river and pastoral landscapes for which he is best known.
