Description

This original pen and wash captures the picturesque harbour at Pittenweem in the East Neuk of Fife, combining confident pen work with subtle washes of colour to evoke the quiet atmosphere of one of Scotland's most distinctive fishing communities. Retaining the artist's handwritten title and medium inscription on the reverse, it is a fine original example of George Birrell's enduring fascination with the harbours and villages of the East Neuk of Fife.

About the Artist

George Birrell (born 1950) studied at Glasgow School of Art between 1967 and 1971 before teaching art and design for a decade and becoming a full-time painter in 1980. His expressive interpretations of Scotland's coastal towns and architecture have made him one of Scotland's best-known contemporary artists, and he continues to live and work in Scotland.
