About the Artist

James Levin Henry (born London, 1855) was a respected British landscape painter who exhibited extensively during the Victorian and Edwardian eras, including at the Royal Academy, the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours, the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, and the New English Art Club (NEAC) — Britain’s leading response to the French Impressionist movement. Elected to the NEAC in 1887, he belonged to the generation that embraced looser brushwork, outdoor light, and everyday subject matter, translated into a distinctly British style. His work is held in UK public collections, including the Williamson Art Gallery and Museum.
