Description
This engaging original oil painting by Manchester artist John Goodlad captures the energy and movement of a busy fairground, with crowds gathered around a brightly lit carousel. Painted with expressive brushwork and stylised figures, the scene has a strong Northern character and a clear visual link to the work of L. S. Lowry. It is a lively and atmospheric composition that works equally well as a collector’s piece or as a distinctive decorative artwork for the home.
About the Artist
John Goodlad is a self-taught Manchester artist whose artistic career began later in life after many years working in the building trade. Returning to formal art education in his 50s, he developed a distinctive style rooted in Northern life and working-class culture. Strongly influenced by L. S. Lowry, Goodlad paints characterful scenes filled with movement and social history, from industrial streets and dockyards to leisure subjects such as this fairground scene. His work is held in private collections throughout the UK and is admired for its narrative quality and unmistakable Northern identity.
