About the Artist
John Goodlad is a self-taught Manchester artist who began his painting career later in life after working in the building trade. Returning to formal education in his 50s, he developed a distinctive style rooted in the Northern realist tradition and influenced by L. S. Lowry. While strongly associated with Northern scenes, Goodlad also captured significant national moments, as seen in this London 2012 Olympic view. His work is held in private collections across the UK and admired for its narrative energy, stylised figures, and celebration of British life.
