About the Artist
John Goodlad was born in Northenden, Manchester, and studied art at Manchester Metropolitan University, graduating in 2005. Strongly influenced by the work of L. S. Lowry and British Impressionism, Goodlad developed a distinctive style centred on bustling coastal and Northern scenes populated with stylised figures and expressive linework.
Working primarily in oils, his paintings capture the movement and atmosphere of everyday British life — from promenades and beaches to ferries, harbours, and communal gathering places. His work has appeared at auction and is held in private collections, with collectors particularly drawn to his colourful reinterpretations of classic Lowry themes and nostalgic seaside subjects.
Manchester and the North West continue to influence his subject matter, with many paintings reflecting locations and scenes associated with Lancashire coastal life.
