Description
Titled Working at the Mills, this original oil painting by Manchester artist John Goodlad captures the rhythm and energy of daily life in an industrial Northern town. Workers move between towering red-brick mills while children play in the streets and chimneys send smoke into a pale urban sky. Painted with characterful brushwork and a clear nod to the legacy of L. S. Lowry, the scene feels both lively and authentic. A vibrant and charming work, rich in movement and atmosphere, it is an ideal piece for collectors of Northern art or anyone seeking a nostalgic yet distinctive interior statement.
About the Artist
John Goodlad is a self-taught Manchester artist who returned to painting later in life after a career in the building trade. Leaving school with only a pass in Art, he rekindled his passion in his 50s through formal fine art study, developing a distinctive Northern realist style. Strongly influenced by L. S. Lowry, Goodlad’s work captures the look, feel, and spirit of working-class life in the North. His paintings are held in private collections across the UK and are admired for their honesty, charm, and nostalgic power.
