A substantial original mixed-media painting by Scottish artist Kathleen Russell, depicting the dramatic coastline of the Inner Hebrides beneath a richly coloured evening sky.
In Evening Skies over Rhum, Russell combines expressive passages of colour with a strong sense of atmosphere and movement. White surf breaks against dark, rocky shores, while the sea stretches towards distant mountainous forms. Above, bands of pink, violet and blue create the changing light of evening.
The composition balances the energy of the foreground waves with the stillness of the distant landscape. Russell's confident handling of colour and texture gives the scene an appealing combination of observation and painterly freedom.
At 75 cm wide, the artwork is a particularly substantial example of mixed-media landscape painting on paper. It is signed K. Russell at the lower right and bears the title Evening Skies over Rhum on the reverse. The work is presented mounted and glazed in a gilt frame.

The Scottish Coastal Setting
Rhum, now generally spelled Rum, is one of Scotland's Inner Hebridean islands. Its mountainous silhouette and surrounding waters provide a compelling subject for landscape artists, particularly under the rapidly changing light and weather of the west coast. Russell's treatment emphasises the character of the maritime landscape: dark rock, foaming water, distant hills and the atmospheric colours of the evening sky. The result is both recognisably Scottish and distinctly expressive.
