Lake Windermere from Bowness
The reverse is signed and inscribed with the artist's name and the title CLOUDY LAKE WINDERMERE FROM BOWNESS and dated 12.10.06. The original Daler Board label identifies the support as an 8 × 6 inch board prepared for oil painting. Gardner is documented painting other small Windermere and Bowness subjects, making this Lake District view a recognised part of his wider landscape practice.
About the Artist
Keith James Gardner RCA (1933-2025) was born in Liverpool and studied at Liverpool Art School and the Laird School of Art, Birkenhead. He was elected to the Royal Cambrian Academy in 1977 and became a full member in 1983. Gardner worked as a full-time painter from 1975 to 1985 and subsequently spent thirteen years at the Williamson Art Gallery in Birkenhead. He was particularly associated with small oil panels painted directly on location, recording landscape, coastal and harbour subjects with an immediate painterly approach.
