Dwygyfylchi and Puffin Island
The reverse is inscribed KEITH GARDNER RCA and PUFFIN ISLAND FROM ABOVE DWYGYFYLCHI and dated 23.11.02. The original Daler-Rowney manufacturer's label identifies the support as an 8 × 6 inch board prepared for oil painting. The elevated viewpoint gives the small work a broad coastal panorama towards Puffin Island and places it firmly within Gardner's documented North Wales landscape practice.
About the Artist
Keith James Gardner RCA (1933-2025) was born in Liverpool and studied at Liverpool Art School and the Laird School of Art in Birkenhead. He was elected to the Royal Cambrian Academy in 1977 and became a full member in 1983. Gardner worked as a full-time painter from 1975 to 1985 and subsequently spent thirteen years at the Williamson Art Gallery in Birkenhead. He became particularly associated with small oil panels painted directly from the landscape, especially around North Wales and the Wirral.
