Description
An evocative and finely observed coastal watercolour by George Lennard Lewis, depicting fishing boats and figures setting out at high tide beneath towering cliffs. The panoramic format, confident draughtsmanship, and luminous handling of natural light place this work firmly among the artist’s mature late Victorian output. Signed and dated 1899, the composition captures both the working rhythm of the British coast and the atmospheric conditions for which Lewis was especially admired.
