Description

Bring a touch of Prague’s natural beauty into your home with this original signed oil painting by Lucie Klímová, titled Jaro na Petříně (“Spring on Petřín Hill”). This charming pastoral scene captures the freshness of spring on one of Prague’s most beloved green spaces, painted directly en plein air with sensitivity to light, atmosphere, and season. A delightful piece for collectors of Central European landscapes, Prague-themed décor, or 20th-century plein air painting.

About the Artist

Lucie Klímová was born in Prague in 1884 and studied at the Academy of Fine Arts, Prague after the 1918 reform allowing women to enrol. She worked exclusively en plein air, painting landscapes and floral subjects guided by natural light and seasonal change. Closely associated with the painter Josef Vacke, she painted alongside him in Yugoslavia during the 1930s and later in Křižany, northern Bohemia, where she lived from 1946. Vacke’s 1958 painting Lucie Klímová at the Cottage confirms her enduring artistic presence there. Klímová exhibited with Vacke at the Stone Ferry Gallery in 1941, securing her place within the Czech interwar art scene. Her work is prized for its lyrical, post-impressionist sensibility and warm depiction of regional landscapes.
