About the Artist
Born in 1958, Marion Thomson studied at Glasgow School of Art from 1976 to 1978 before continuing at Glasgow University, where she gained an MA.
She subsequently worked as a costume designer in theatre, film and television while continuing to paint, and from 2000 devoted herself to painting full time. The Scottish landscape, particularly the west coast and islands, has remained central to her practice.
Thomson works from first-hand observation, using sketches, studies and photographs made on location before developing her paintings in the studio. She is a member of the Society of Scottish Artists and has exhibited widely in Scotland, including with the Royal Glasgow Institute and Paisley Art Institute.
