About the Artist
John Henry Mole (1814–1886) was a respected Victorian watercolourist born in Alnwick, Northumberland. Initially trained as a solicitor’s clerk, he later devoted himself fully to art and became a member of the New Water-Colour Society (now the Royal Watercolour Society) in 1847. He is best known for his sensitive depictions of children, rustic cottages, and pastoral life. His work was widely exhibited, including at the Royal Academy, and remains highly regarded today for its narrative charm and refined technique.
