Sam Toft (born 1964) - Sea Dogs
Signed limited edition fine art print, number 80/395
Sam Toft’s Sea Dogs is a characteristically playful maritime scene featuring Ernest Hemingway Mustard travelling across choppy water with a boat full of canine companions. The crowded vessel, windblown figure and lively animals create a humorous narrative, while Toft’s muted palette, expressive drawing and textured reproduction retain the distinctive appearance associated with her original mixed-media work.
The print is signed in pencil by the artist lower right, titled Sea Dogs beneath the artwork and numbered 80/395 lower left. It was produced using lightfast inks on 260gsm Fine Art paper. The certificate records an edition of 395 copies plus 40 artist’s proofs.
Sea Dogs was issued in connection with Toft’s 2015 One Man and His Dog project and was conceived as a companion print to Fish Hunt.

About the Artist
Sam Toft was born in Staffordshire in June 1964 and studied General Art and Design at the City of Liverpool Community College. She is known for gently humorous narrative compositions centred on Ernest Hemingway Mustard, his family and their assortment of animal companions.
Her original works combine materials and techniques including oil pastel, coloured ink, ink washes and sgraffito. These create the softened surfaces, strong linear detail and understated colours that distinguish her imagery.
