Description

This large, joyful original oil painting by celebrated British artist Simeon Stafford captures the lively energy of a bustling coastal town. Painted in 2021, the composition overflows with colour, movement and humour — animated figures mingle among vibrant houses, busy roads and bobbing boats. Instantly recognisable as a classic Stafford scene, the work balances playful storytelling with confident structure and rhythm. Presented in a white matt frame and ready to hang, it makes a striking and uplifting statement piece.

About the Artist

Simeon Stafford is widely regarded as one of Britain’s leading living artists. Born in 1956 in a Pennine town on the Manchester–Yorkshire border, he began painting gritty industrial scenes rooted in the Northern School tradition. A formative meeting with L.S. Lowry at the age of fourteen proved pivotal, encouraging Stafford to pursue his artistic path. After relocating to Cornwall in 1996, he connected with artists such as Sir Terry Frost and Patrick Heron, leading to a vibrant fusion of Northern narrative and Cornish colour and light. His work often features recurring characters drawn from family life, adding warmth, humour and continuity. Stafford exhibited at the Royal Academy in 2001, became a member of the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists in 2003, and his work is held in numerous important private collections, including that of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
