About the Artist
William Crosbie RSA (1915–1999) was a leading figure in post-war Scottish Modernism. Born in Hankow, China, and educated at the Glasgow School of Art, he later studied in Paris under the influential modernist Fernand Léger. Crosbie developed a distinctive style combining decorative vitality, expressive figuration, and strong compositional design. His work is represented in major collections including the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, the Royal Collection, and The Fleming Collection. He was elected a Royal Scottish Academician (RSA) in 1970.
